Rugby fan “kidnapped and repeatedly raped” after World Cup game | British News

A female rugby fan was raped by three men after watching a World Cup match in France, police say.

The 37-year-old woman supported Ireland in their game against Romania in Bordeaux.

Police said she was taken to Bordeaux University Hospital and officers are still trying to hunt down her attackers.

The rape is said to have taken place around midnight on Rue de la Rousselle in central Bordeaux, not far from the woman’s accommodation, police said.

Residents raised the alarm after she said she was dragged into an alley and then attacked.

The three attackers fled the scene, leaving the woman on the ground.

Irish officers – who were already in the city – were called in to help.

According to French daily Le Parisien, the men drove them in a car but did not leave the area.

The woman is said to have sought refuge in her apartment after the attack and was initially unable to report her traumatic experience.

Irish officials were asked to accompany her to Bordeaux hospital and collect her statement.

The attackers were described as Caucasian. One is said to be “very sporty”. An investigation into the alleged rape has been launched.

Police told Le Parisien in a statement: “The investigation is ongoing, in particular the genetic examinations of the victim and clothing, the collection of witness statements and the study of the video surveillance of the neighborhood.”
