WICHITA, Kan. (AP) – A Kansas high school football team paid tribute to its longtime photographer following her death Friday, four days after an accidental accident on the sidelines of a junior varsity game she was photographing.

The 69-year-old woman fell backwards and hit her head on concrete while taking photos at the junior varsity game between Wichita Northwest High School and rival Bishop Carroll High on Sept. 4. She was seriously injured Life support She’s been waiting all week to donate her organs since she was accidentally hit by two players during a block game.

Mel Gregory, who owned a local photography business with his wife and was their photography partner, joined several other family members at Northwest’s game against Heights High School on Friday, just as the couple had done for years, the Wichita Eagles reported. All players wore “LG” stickers on their helmets, which will be displayed throughout the season, and there was a minute’s silence in their honor before kickoff.

“I was on the sidelines again tonight to watch Linda Gregory being honored with many honors. “It was difficult to do the interviews and my voice broke far too often, but I hope I made my beloved Linda Gregory proud by trying to be as good as her,” said Mel Gregory wrote on Facebook after Friday’s game.

The Gregorys began photographing Northwest High sporting events in 2014 and are a regular presence on the school’s teams.

“Linda was a great person who breathed life into our students here at Northwestern,” coach Steve Martin said after she was seriously injured. “She went out of her way to make each child feel important in their own way. Her passion for children was incredible, but it went beyond taking photos for Linda and Mel. You were a part of our football team and always will be. They’re family!”

Longtime friend Joanna Chadwick said Linda Gregory left a lasting impression on the players she photographed. Chadwick became close to her when her husband coached basketball at Northwest.

“Linda is my sons’ third grandmother and I will never be able to repay her for that,” Chadwick said. “But the amazing thing about Linda is that she loved my family and we loved her so much that so many other people did too.”

Former Northwest High star Breece Hall, now a running back for the New York Jets in the NFL, asked for prayers Tuesday after learning of the injury.

“These are the most sincere, polite, kind, generous and sincere people. “Our prayers go out to you and your wonderful wife, Mel Gregory,” Hall posted on Facebook.
